Colby College's Bill and Joan Alfond Main Street Commons opens
Downtown Waterville's newest addition officially opened today.
A ribbon cutting was held at the Bill and Joan Alfond Main Street Commons, Colby College's new downtown dorm.
Over 200 students and faculty will live there.
A reception was held after the ceremony, and tours were given of the building.
"I always dreamed of finding a way to connect my college and my community," says Bill Alfond, investor and philanthropist. "And to me, this building is a bridge that will continue to close the gap."
"This building, we hope, will be another catalyst for extraordinary development here in Waterville," says David Greene, President of Colby College. "Having 200 students here, having faculty and staff living in this building, all of whom are going to be working with city organizations, nonprofits, working with the arts organizations, and other social service agencies throughout the city to help support them will enrich this city in all kinds of ways."
Classes at Colby College began Wednesday.
