BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The 6th Annual Children's Book Drive was held in downtown Bangor Tuesday.

Outside The Briar Patch bookshop, bins were set up to collect donations of gently used books.

Local author Brian Estes sang parts of his book "Flying Pigs and Dinosaurs" and played the ukulele.

Literacy Volunteers of Bangor and Darling's Ice Cream for a Cause say it's important to help kids learn to love reading.

"It's something that's going to last forever for the kids. It'll make them successful, and just bring them joy for many, many years to come. Especially during the summer time where they're not in school, not constantly reading, we really want to encourage that as much as possible and just the pure joy of reading, " said Gary Bellefleur.

If you'd like to donate books, you can drop them off at Darling's locations in Brewer, Bangor, Augusta, and Ellsworth through June 30th.
