Charges filed in case of cow shot in Embden

EMBDEN, Maine (WABI) - Several charges have been filed in the case of pet cow that was shot to death in Embden.

Somerset County District Attorney Megan Maloney has charged the cow's owner, and the man accused of shooting it.

According to those involved Jamie Danforth kept the animal as a pet.

It got loose and damaged her neighbor's vehicle.

We're told that led to the animal being killed.

Danforth is charged with animal trespass.

Neighbor Mason Sparrow is charged with cruelty to animals.

Both are set to be in court in November.

Somerset County Sheriff Dale Lancaster issued a reminder that owners are responsible for maintaining control of their domestic animals.

He says the law is also clear that you can't kill a domestic animal belonging to another person without that person's consent.
