With the governor extending the civil emergency in Maine until August 7th, some have questions concerning vehicle, boat, ATV, and snowmobile registrations.

The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife says that despite the status of civil emergency, all recreational vehicles, whether due to an expired registration or because they have been newly purchased, must be registered.

That includes ATVs, snowmobiles, and boats.

The deadline to register motor vehicles now lands on September 5th, thirty days after the civil emergency ends. However, some towns have set their own deadline.

Because of that, it is recommended you contact your town office to find out when that deadline is.

**A previous version of this story erroneously stated that the deadline for recreational vehicles registrations had been extended. The Governor's Executive Order 53-A-2 repealed that extension.
