"Buttery Flaky Crust": Hermon Couple Reacts to SNL Skit

HERMON, Maine (WABI) - Dickinson's Roadside Diner is no Dysart's, but a Hermon couple was quite impressed with a Saturday Night Live skit that aired over the weekend.

It featured their famous "buttery flaky crust" flub from a 2012 commercial for the local restaurant.

We caught up with Sonya and Jack Palmer Monday.

"Baked in our buttery crispy crust. Flaky! I left out flaky again!"

"Buttery flaky crust. That's what it was supposed to be."

"Baked in a buttery, flaky, flaky, flaky!"

"I must have took 40 tries with that thing. They ran out of patience. Everybody."

Jack and Sonya Palmer of Hermon don't consider themselves famous.

"I don't like that word."

But they've tallied nearly $5 million views on YouTube for this 2012 Dysart's commercial.

"He said 3, 2, 1... And I'm sitting there like a zombie. After I messed up a bunch times, then she took over."

"Then I messed up and wasn't I mad?!"

Now, "buttery flaky crust" is making a comeback, thanks to a spoof on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.

"Baked in a Christy, crusty turd... Dan!"

"Look at her! I thought it was hilarious."

"Yeah my daughter called up and told us. I thought they did a pretty good job."

Will Ferrell and Kate McKinnon played the Hermon couple on Saturday's show.

"He didn't get it right... He sounds like me."

But if you think the limelight would drive them away from their favorite haunt...

"Sometimes we'll be sitting there with a coffee and someone comes up and says there they are!"

You'd be wrong.

"We hardly go anywhere else. We like Dysart's that much."

After 59 years of marriage, not much has changed for the Palmers.

"Look at the camera."

Jack still takes his cues from Sonya.

"What did she say? Who wears the pants in the family? Oh me. Yeah. Oh I do."

"She says in reincarnation, I can be the boss next time, but I'm not holding my breath."

"When I say jump, he jumps five feet in the air."

Whether it's the TV couple or the real deal, Dysart's number one customers will continue coming back for that buttery, crispy, I mean flaky... Nevermind.

"See you tonight! This ought to be good."
