WATERBORO, Maine (WMTW) - The driver of a box truck that slammed into a turning SUV Thursday morning in Waterboro was in court Friday.

A 10-month old girl in the SUV was hospitalized after the crash and is in critical condition, officials said.

The York County Sheriff's Office has charged 53-year-old Rene Romero of Lynn, Massachusetts, with aggravated driving to endanger.

He appeared via video from the York County Jail.

Romero did not enter a plea.

He was ordered held on $10,000 bail and can't drive a motor vehicle under any circumstances.

Court documents say he drove with criminal negligence and caused serious bodily harm to the 10 month old baby.

The baby's mother, 37-year-old Ellen Kennedy of Sanford, who was driving the SUV, was not hurt.

Gabrielle's family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her medical expenses.
