Bill to aid federal employees in another shutdown headed for vote

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A bill aimed at providing federal employees in Maine with financial security in the event of another government shutdown has cleared one hurdle.

The bill made it through committee following an 11-2 vote.

It would provide a guarantee of a loan from banks or credit unions to federal employees for one month's pay up to 5 thousand dollars.

This comes after the more than month long shutdown that saw thousands go without pay.

The bill will now go to the floor of both the Senate and House for a vote.
