BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - All year long, Bangor Parks and Rec, and the Bangor Police Department collect bikes.
Some are donated, while others have been found abandoned in the city.
This weekend, more than 50 bikes are up for auction at Bangor Parks and Rec.
It takes place from 9 to 10 Saturday.
The goal is to get more people riding.
"So people are more than welcome to come in, register. Once they register, they can look at the bikes for a half an hour and then the auction starts at 10 o'clock," said Daniel Gastia, Community Relations Officer for the Bangor Police Department. "The bikes are sold at a cheaper rate. So someone who may not be able to afford a brand new bike is able to come to the auction and get something at a fairly decent price."
Proceeds are divided between Parks and Rec and the Bangor Police Community Relations Fund.
