Authorities say a Brewer man drowned in Chemo Pond in Eddington Monday night.

Wardens say 54-year-old Eugene Hill was boating with two friends when one of them fell into the water trying to get onto a tube beside the boat.

Hill went into the pond to try to help as the friend grabbed the ladder.

They say the wind blew the ladder out of Hill's reach and he slipped under, unable to stay afloat.

People from other camps tried to help but couldn't locate Hill.

Wardens found his body in about 20 feet of water around 2 Tuesday morning.

Wardens say there were numerous life jackets on board, but none were being worn.
