Area Residents Advocate for Medicare Outside Bangor Federal Building
The Senate Republican Health Care proposal remains a hot topic nationwide.
Those against the plan held a vigil in Bangor Tuesday. The group is also urging Senator Susan Collins to support Medicare for all.
They also thanked Collins for announcing last night she would *not* vote to move the GOP Plan forward unless significant changes are made.
"We're very glad that she's come out against this very cruel bill. This bill would have meant 22 million Americans would have lost their healthcare. Thousands would have died," said Izle Petersons, a volunteer with the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine. "So I'm so grateful that she has been willing to have the courage to stand up and to vote. As long as healthcare is a profitable venture instead of healthcare being just to meet people's needs, we're going to have problems so we're saying let's work for Medicare for all."
Senator Angus King is also against the bill that would replace Obamacare.
The Senate Majority Leader has delayed a vote on the plan until next week.
