Acting Corrections Commissioner says Charleston heating issues are being worked on

CHARLESTON, Maine (WABI) - The Mountain View Correctional Facility has had some issues with its heating system.

Acting Commissioner Randall Liberty says the issues are being worked on.

He toured the facility Thursday and says he found the heating to be adequate.

Prison leaders say parts of the heating system began to malfunction last spring, then things got worse.

A different contractor was brought in this week and the system is being completely flushed and parts being replaced.

Liberty says portable heaters have been placed throughout the prison and staff is monitoring temperatures.

He says some inmates are being allowed to move their mattresses to the common spaces that have a tendency to be warmer.
