The Maine CDC Wednesday reported its largest single day spike in COVID-19 cases.

78 new cases since Tuesday. These new cases brings the total in the state to 1,819.

The head of the Maine CDC says it isn't surprising since more testing will produce more positive results.

1,632 are confirmed, 187 are probable.

In all, 1,110 people have recovered.

The total number of deaths remains at 73.

County numbers show the biggest jump of 34 new cases was in Androscoggin County. This brings the total there to 185.

Cumberland County cases increased by 28 to 891.

There are 9 new cases in York County for a total of 316.

Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford and Sagadahoc Counties each had one new case.

We also know 23 people have now tested positive for COVID-19 at a Cianbro run construction site in Augusta. That's up four from Tuesday.

Work at that site has been halted for up to two weeks while the site is sanitized.
