3 arrested in connection with shooting in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Maine (WMTW) - Lewiston police are actively investigating a shooting that took place early Saturday morning near Walnut and Pierce streets.

According to the Lewiston Police Department, three arrests were made in connection with the shooting.

The suspects are Elisha Felix Rios, 19, of Jersey City; Benjamin Brown, 28, of East Boston; and Shantel Chisholm, 25, of Lewiston.

Police say 19-year-old Felix Rios of Jersey City was arrested after he got out of the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg. The injury is believed to be non-life threatening.

Rios was arrested because of a probation hold on a previous gun-related conviction

Brown is being charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.

Chisholm is being charged with violation of conditions of release.

Police took several calls about gunshots and fighting just before 3 a.m.

When officers responded to the scene, they learned some of the people involved escaped into an apartment building on Walnut Street and surrounded the building.

Police recovered four handguns, many shell casings, more than 50 grams of heroin, and $1,000 in suspected drug proceeds.

A section of Walnut Street to Blake Street was closed for most of the day while the ongoing investigation took place.

Police believe more charges and more arrests will likely come from their investigation.
