Two people are dead following a house fire in Orrington early Saturday morning.
The State Fire Marshal's Office has identified one of the victims as 55-year-old Shelly Lynn Murphy.
We're told the other victim, is a middle-aged man- they have not released his name.
Fire officials responded to the two-story family home on Brewer Lake Road at roughly 3 a.m.
Though the response time was quick, the home was fully involved upon the crews arrival.
Officials say the fire appears to have started on the first floor.
Three people managed to escape the home safely but a man and a woman who were sleeping upstairs did not make it out.
Asst. Fire Chief Chad Bean says, "There were working smoke detectors that did alert at least the occupants on the first floor. It appears to be that the issue was because the fire started on the first floor that they didn't have access, their means of egress was blocked because the stairwell was on fire so, they weren't able to come down."
The home is a total loss.
Investigators are working to determine a cause.
The three surviving residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.
