Bangor city council appoints new fire chief

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Bangor City Council unanimously appointed Eric Pelletier as fire chief Monday night, voting 9-0 to confirm him to the position.

Pelletier first joined the Bangor Fire Department as a lieutenant in 2015. He was promoted to captain in 2018 and has served as deputy chief for the last eight years.

Pelletier has served as Bangor’s interim fire chief since the resignation of Geoffrey Low in June.

“I am humbled and honored to accept this position and the responsibility that comes with it,” Pelletier said. “Although we have been able to accomplish a lot over the years, there is still much to do. As the city continues to grow and evolve, so will our department. Safety for the public and our personnel will always be a top priority. We will work to build stronger relationships with our residents, community stakeholders, and local organizations to enhance fire prevention, education, and emergency preparedness.”
