BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - A man is in custody after police say he tried to light his partner’s car on fire while her dog was still inside.

Bangor Police Department say that just before 4:00 am Tuesday, a woman ran into the police station with her dog saying they were being chased.

45-year-old David Viera reportedly ran into the lobby behind her before he was stopped by officers and asked to leave.

The woman told officers that Viera poured gasoline on the car that the two had been living in, with the dog still inside.

She told police she was able to get the dog out of the car before Viera could ignite it.

Police say they found a lighter on Vierra including a gas can nearby the car.

Vierra was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where he faces a charge of Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening.
