Monmouth pulls out a close one against Madison to reach the Class D South regional final

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The No. 2 Monmouth Academy Mustangs are headed to the Class D South title game after defeating No. 3 Madison 50-46.

The Mustangs went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter including four from Freshman Tyler Day.

“I would say just a hard-fought team win by us,” said Day. “Good team. Really gave us a challenge but, hard-fought win.”

Day led the game in scoring with 16. Senior Aiden Oliveira added 12 for the Mustangs.

“We use a word called family and I think that’s really it right there,” said Oliveira. “We just come together as a family and work together.”

Madison’s Jacob Linkletter led their team with 15.

Monmouth now moves on to play the winner of No. 1 Mt. Abram and No. 4 Carrabec for a regional title.
