Clouds move in Sunday; showers for some Monday and Tuesday
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - After a beautiful and sunny day with high temps in the 60s, we will be welcoming in a bit more of a cloudy and dreary stretch of weather for much of the state, starting tomorrow.
But first, skies will be mostly clear tonight with some patchy morning fog and patchy frost possible. Low temps will vary from the low 30s to mid 40s. NE gusts will reach 20 mph on the coast, with calmer winds inland.
On Sunday, clouds from a developing system along the East Coast will enter Maine. Skies will be mostly cloudy for much of the state, apart from Northern Maine where mostly sunny skies are expected. High temps will be a little cooler than Saturday, from the mid 50s to mid 60s. ENE gusts will reach 25 mph.
The developing system in the Atlantic off the East Coast is a Nor’easter, which is currently stirring up near the coast of the Carolinas. It will travel Northwards, up towards New England on Sunday. This will bring us some cloud cover which will build throughout the day. Clouds will be most abundant on the coast and in Southern Maine.
While the Nor’easter tries to work up to New England, we have high pressure sat overhead Northern New England this weekend. This will act as a wall, blocking much of the Nor’easter’s rain impacts from reaching Maine. By Monday, showers will work up into Western and Southern Maine. Showers are also possible along the Coast and Interstate, although they become less likely the farther NE you go. Winds will be a bit breezy, with NE gusts between 20-30 mph for most here in Maine from Sunday through Tuesday. Peak gusts are expected on Monday. These gusts shouldn’t be damaging, unlike some strong and damaging gusts upwards of 40 to 50 mph in Southern New England. By Monday, we could see swells up to 10 feet in the Gulf of Maine with rip currents and rough waters as a concern.
All in all, in Maine we will see more clouds, some showers (not for all locations), breezy winds, and rough waters. Honestly, I will take it because while we could use more rain, we could definitely not use damaging winds.
The work week will trend a bit more on the cloudy and dreary side due to a combination of the Nor’easter and a few other low-pressure systems mid/late week. Temps will cool off by Thursday and Friday, with highs in the 40s and 50s for most.
