AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A man armed with a knife entered the Edmund S. Muskie Federal Building in Augusta Wednesday morning and was then shot by a Federal Protective Service guard, according to the FBI.

The FBI says the man entered the building around 11:30 a.m. and physically assaulted one of the Federal Protective Service guards.

They say another Federal Protective Service guard then shot the man.

Officials say he is in custody and has been transported to the hospital.

There is no threat to the public and no one inside the building was hurt.

The FBI is leading the investigation.
