State Police investigate after body found in Machias

MACHIAS, Maine (WABI) - State Police are investigating after a body was found on the ground near High Street in Machias.

A neighbor tells TV5 they heard gunshots about 12:30 am Thursday.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit shut part of High Street down as they worked to figure out what happened.

The Evidence Response Team arrived around 12:30 pm.

Detectives were on scene throughout the day.

No further information has been released.

Police say further information will be released once an autopsy is performed.
