BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - More than 150 bikes and spare parts up for auction Saturday by the Bangor Police Department.

An annual fundraiser for the department.

Folks around Bangor could bid on an impressive lineup of kids and adults bikes at the Bangor Parks and Recreation Department.

The department collects these bikes through various methods, bikes that were lost and never claimed, or even stolen but unable to find the original owner.

The proceeds of today’s auction go towards the department’s community service fund, which funds numerous community outreach efforts.

While they weren’t able to hold it last year due to COVID restrictions, the department is glad they’re able to get some of these bikes off their hands.

And go towards people who will actually use them.

”These community events are so vital, because it allows us to interact with the community that we serve, because many of the times that people call 911, they’re not having the best day, and when we have a Party in the Park or we have a bike auction or we do some fundraiser, it gives us or the public the opportunity to interact with a local officer that’s serving them on a daily basis,” said Elizabeth Ashe, Bangor Police Department Community Resource Officer.
