Clean up continues for golf course in Winter Harbor after heavy rainfall
WINTER HARBOR, Maine (WABI) - It was a normal Tuesday night for Kevin Conley, the Superintendent of the Grindstone Neck Golf Course, when he went to sleep.
It was an unbelievable sight when he showed up for work on Wednesday.
“It was like a hurricane but without the wind. We had seven inches of rain. I had no idea we were going to have that kind of rain. I thought slight chance of showers in the morning, but when I got here at five in the morning, it was just a pond. Everything was under water,” said Conley.
A day later, the ground is still sopping wet.
Puddles cover much of the course.
The rain even caused a landslide on the sixth hole leaving a large slab of dirt and chewed up grass.
Their large pool was filled more than halfway, approximately 70,000 gallons of rain water.
“It was completely empty, and we’re getting ready to paint it and get it open in a couple weeks. And the main drain got clogged and all this water poured into it with the rain,” said Conley.
Conley says he expects it will be a few weeks until the course opens back up fully.
