WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - Waterville Senior High School’s Class of 2021 will be taking an unconventional approach to graduation, once again.

In 2020, the school held graduation at Central Maine Motors.

They’ll be doing the same thing this year, with some changes.

Each graduate will be able to have two vehicles at the ceremony.

Each family must also remain inside their vehicle at all times during the ceremony.

Seniors we spoke to say they’re so grateful to the Gaunce family for allowing the school to use their Toyota lot for the event for the second year in a row.

“We’re really fortunate that it’s close to the high school, and so, we’re really fortunate,” said senior, Evelyn Fuentes

“It’s a huge undertaking for the Gaunces’ to do. They have to clear out this lot, and they have to make sure everything is set up and ready to go, and they don’t even have a child graduating this year, and last year they did. So, it’s just extremely kind of them to care so much about the community and school system,” said senior, Sarah McNeil.

“Last year was about showing about how to have a victory in the most challenging of times,” said Chris Gaunce, Owner of Central Maine Auto Group. “This year, it’s about having that victory yet again and recognizing that life goes on. We don’t stop. We push through. We find a way through, and we make it happen.”

About 100 Waterville-area seniors will receive diplomas Thursday night,

The ceremony is set 7 p.m. with a parade starting at the high school prior to the event.

If you can’t attend, it will be livestreamed.

More than 27,000 people tuned in to the ceremony last year.
