SOUTHWEST HARBOR, Maine (WABI) - A long-serving hero of the Southwest Harbor community has passed away.

Deputy Chief Sam Chisholm, an active member of the Southwest Harbor Fire Department, died unexpectedly Monday morning at his home.

Chisholm served the Southwest Harbor community for 43 years.

He joined the department in 1978.

Throughout the years, Chisholm has worked on the ambulance, served as a Firefighter, Fire Captain, Deputy Fire Chief, Dispatcher, and Police Officer.

His family requests that any sympathy cards or donations be made payable and delivered to the Southwest Harbor Fire Association at the following address:
