AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - Eight Mainers have died with COVID-19 after being fully vaccinated for coronavirus.
Those are the latest numbers from the head of the Maine CDC.
Dr. Nirav Shah says they can’t comment on specific cases, but overall, the people who passed away after being vaccinated were older and many had underlying conditions.
He says there were no links like the specific vaccine that these people had received.
“Taking a look at how deaths have changed before the era of COVID vaccine and after the era of COVID vaccine leaves no doubt that the implementation of COVID vaccine has led to a dramatic and sustained reduction in deaths associated with COVID,” Shah said.
Shah says overall, there have been 387 breakthrough cases in Maine.
That means 99.95% percent of people vaccinated have not gotten the virus.
