ORONO, Maine (WABI) - Wally Covell holds a special spot in Orono High School sports history.

He came to Orono in 1961 and resurrected a baseball program that hadn’t played in two decades at the time. Now, Covell holds a special spot at the Red Riots baseball field.

The game between Orono and George Stevens was stopped in the third inning Wednesday afternoon to unveil a special plaque in Covell’s honor at a pedestal on the backstop.

For Covell’s family, it was a touching moment, and a great way to honor their dad.
