AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - The Maine Department of Transportation is driving to hire more workers by changing lanes in their hiring process.

Maine DOT began conducting drive-thru interviews at their headquarters in Augusta last night.

Paul Merrill, DOT’s Public Information Officer, says these drive-thru interviews are being done to help maintain health and safety during the pandemic.

DOT is looking to fill several important positions, specifically heavy vehicle and equipment technicians at the Fleet Garage in Augusta.

”They’re positions that we’ve been trying to hire for a while, it’s just hard to find people. In these specific jobs, there isn’t a ton of openings, but it is something we are trying to hire for statewide. We have a really good benefits package. Most of your healthcare costs are going to be covered by the state. It’s a good schedule, depending on the job, quite a bit of flexibility. They’re good jobs, they’re good stable jobs,” said Maine DOT Public Information Officer Paul Merrill.

Another drive-thru interview session will take place in Augusta next Wednesday, June 2nd, at 66 Industrial Drive from 4 to 7 pm

Merrill says DOT is also hoping to conduct drive-thru interviews in the county sometime in the coming weeks as well.
