AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) - A huge day for the let them play crowd.

Maine DHHS Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew said during Wednesday’s CDC briefing they have removed their COVID-19 community sports guidance and have given word to the Maine Principal’s Association it’s up to them how they would like to proceed with returning to sports safely.

The state health organizations had been working with the MPA to align community sports COVID-19 safety guidance with schools sports guidance.

The MPA released this statement Wednesday afternoon:

“It is with great excitement that the Maine Principals’ Association announces a reopening of all interscholastic activities in Maine. As our state moves to following of U.S. CDC guidelines, we will continue to work with the Maine Department of Education, the Maine School Board and Superintendent’s Association, and the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administrators’ Association to assist schools in developing their individual school plans to allow for a safe reopening plan for their athletes and school staff. These plans will look at current requirements and recommendations for schools as well as Maine’s Executive Orders.”
