WASHINGTON D.C. - (WABI) - Maine’s two United States Senators say President Biden struck the right tone in his inaugural address.

Senator Susan Collins was there, in-person, on the platform where Biden took the oath and delivered his address. Senator Angus King watched on tv. Both say they are looking forward to the new agenda and confirming Biden’s cabinet.

“I thought President Biden struck the right themes by calling for unity, for reminding us that we’re all Americans, that we can work together, and that if we do so, we can solve the problems facing our nation,” Senator Collins said.

”By and large, the custom is, that you allow the President to pick their own team,” added Senator King “I voted for a lot of Donald Trump’s nominees, not all of them, but many of them, and I think Joe Biden has picked a strong team.”

Both Collins and King say, beyond handling the coronavirus crisis, they would like to see the new administration develop a bipartisan infrastructure plan, including funds for rural broadband.
