PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -With recent accidents that have involved moose, Maine Game Wardens are reminding people to be cautious when behind the wheel.

Warden Alan Dudley says moose and deer are more likely to be closer to roads in the wintertime due to deep snow and salt on the roadways. He says moose are dark in color, so people should be very careful at night and take it slow to avoid hitting them. He adds there are areas where people should be more cautious when it comes to deer.

Warden Dudley, said, “The big issue is they’re around deer yards this time of year and the deer yards seem to be more populated areas you know like Ashland Presque Isle all the way up into the Allagash you know people ought to be aware of that even though they’re around town don’t think that they’re not gonna see one of these animals.”

Warden Dudley adds the animals are more active around dusk and dawn, so people should be more aware during those times.
