BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - The Bangor City Council has selected a final design for a new transit center in Pickering Square.

The design was selected at a city council meeting Monday evening.

It will provide riders with both indoor and outdoor sheltered areas to wait for the bus.

Bangor Assistant City Manager Rich Cromwell says the new transit center will benefit both riders and downtown businesses.

The architectural firm Artifex will spend the next 30 days finalizing the selected design.

”The architect is really going to hone in on the appearance of the building, interior and exterior and the materials that will be used in the building design in order to get a better estimate on what should we anticipate the cost of this building being when it goes out to bid.”

The goal is for the transit center to be operational by the fall of 2021.

You can see more about the selected design at the link below. The council opted for Plan 1 with the “courtyard” style roof.
