WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - The month of December TV5 is partnering with the Red Cross to help with the nationwide blood shortage.

Our goal is to reach 500 donations.

One of many blood drives set up this month took place today at O’Briens event center in Waterville.

The Red Cross is doing everything they can to make the donation process as safe as possible, with temperature checks and constant cleaning.

During the holiday season the Red Cross says donations are even more important.

Account Manager David Stires says each donation can help save up to three lives.

”The need for blood doesn’t stop because of the coronavirus. There’s still people who are getting in car accidents still mothers with at-risk pregnancies and babies born prematurely and there’s still people battling cancer, and all these patients need blood and right now. The only way for patients to get blood in the United States is through volunteer donors.”

There are several upcoming blood drives later this month.

Including one at the Winslow VFW on the 17th, and another at the Anah Shrine in Bangor on the 23rd.
