United Way of Mid-Maine sells Waterville office building
President Alan Smith says they started discussions about the sale earlier in the year.

WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - The United Way of Mid-Maine will be selling their office building in Waterville - a move that will help more people in the community.
President and CEO Alan Smith says they started discussions about the sale earlier in the year.
He says they quickly learned that owning a building meant more upkeep and expenses.
When the pandemic caused everyone to work from home, Smith said his employees were just as efficient.
”By selling the building our overhead decreases substantially and we can put even more money into the community, which is what we’re here for. We’re here to support the nonprofits on the ground. We can’t be in every community but there are nonprofits in every community that are helping that location,” said Smith.
Smith says they look forward to continuing their work in the central Maine area.
The sale is expected to be finalized the first week of December.
