Dedham teen doubles her goal selling pies for food bank
BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - After over 30 hours in the kitchen with a team of bakers at her side to assist, a Dedham teen has fulfilled her mission to make pies to benefit the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
Skyler Manhart had a goal of selling 100 pies and well, she went way over that. She ended up selling and making 215 pies!
The 16-year-old spent the last few days with some help from her co-workers at Fork and Spoon in Bangor hand-baking the pies.
She even took the time to make lattice crusts for all of the apple pies.
I’m sure she’s now smelling pies in her dreams.
But she says this labor of love was completely worth it.
And she couldn’t be more proud of the community for their support. ”I’m just really thankful, everyone got together and ordered a pie. It was so helpful. I couldn’t have done this without all of you guys,” she says.
When asked if she’d be up to the task again next year, she says, “Ask me in a week. Once I’ve had a chance to sleep. It was fun. So, maybe.”
She hasn’t fully calculated how much the revenue from the pies and donations will total.
But she estimates close to $4,000 will be given to Good Shepherd Food Bank.
