BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - There are good people in this world.

That’s what a Bangor resident says he was reminded of after a random act of kindness.

”My wife got a small wooden bench to put out on that front porch,” says 74-year-old Donald Parsley. He’s a Vietnam Veteran who likes to sit on that bench and smoke.

“I got up one morning and went out there and it was gone. Somebody had come up on to the porch during the night and taken the bench,” he says.

Parsley says it wasn’t a fancy bench by any means but it was disappointing.

His wife Jan took to Facebook to ask if anyone saw it discarded somewhere to let them know.

“Three days later, I got up, I went out on to the porch and there was this brand new bench sitting out there with pillows and cushions and all kinds of stuff,” says Parsley.

There was no note or no name of the person who had done such a good deed.

“Never did find out where it came from,” he says.

Jan Parsley posted on Facebook, again, explaining what had happened.

And while she got more than 200 ecstatic responses from neighbors...none of them confessed to being the good Samaritan.

“It kind of reaffirms by belief that there are good people out there who do care about other people. I’m very grateful,” says Parsley.
