ORONO, Maine (WABI) - Officials responded the Stillwater River in Orono for a reported water rescue Saturday night.

Rescue crews responded to the area of the river near the Brandon M. Silk Memorial Bridge on Main Street around 5 p.m.

A number of area crews responded to the area and began searching the river.

Officials have not released any further information.

However, we spoke with one witness to the incident who described one individual in the water calling for help.

“We thought to call 911 so me and my dad we rushed down to the river bank and we see this guy drowning, and he’s real struggling. My dad takes off his pants and shirt and swims out there to try and save him. And my dad is telling him to roll on his back and keep his head up. He was obviously trying but he was just too exhausted," said Jacob O’Hara of Orono.

We are continuing to gather information from officials and will provide you with updates as soon as it becomes available.
