BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - 42 years.

That’s how long a man from Massachusetts will spend in prison for a murder in Bangor.

32-year-old, F Daly, was sentenced Thursday for shooting and killing 51-year-old Israel Lewis.

A jury found him guilty last fall.

Police found Lewis’ body in an apartment on Second Street in January of 2018.

The court heard several statements from the loved ones of Lewis.

His girlfriend talked about the positive impact he had on her life.

His son and his brothers talked about the deep loss they’ve experienced from his senseless killing.

Daly also spoke in court Thursday as he quoted scripture and read a statement from his mother.

Judge Ann Murray said some of the factors she considered included the violent nature of the crime and his lack of responsibility for the murder.

She said she also added in the fact Daly had no criminal record.

F Daly, said, “I did not kill this man. In no way shape or form would I go out of my way to do such a thing.”

Defense Attorney, Robert Van Horn, said, ”We think this should have been under 40 years for a sentence. But, the judge didn’t impose what the state asked for, either.”

“We’re pleased with the sentence and the family members, unfortunately, lived out of state and they also wanted to say that they felt justice had been done today and they are pleased with the result<” Lisa Bogue, Assistant Attorney General, said.

Judge Ann Murray said some of the factors she considered included the violent nature of the crime and his lack of responsibility for the murder.

Murray also noted Daly had no criminal record.
