A new cell phone feature is putting the brakes on texting for teenagers while driving.
Textecution uses the Android phone and an onboard GPS to know how fast the phone is moving.
If it's traveling over ten miles per hour, the phone's texting, e-mail and web browsing functions are disabled.
Right now the service can be added for free at the Wireless Zone in Newport, Skowhegan, and two locations in Bangor, including the Bangor Mall.
The Wireless Zone's Chad O'Leary says, the feature will soon expand to more phones than just the Android.
" Oh I think it's very important. You hear all the time about the accidents and how they relate texting while driving to the same as being drunk and driving. So I think it's a great option for parents to keep their kids safe."
