Typically there is that one weather event that sparks a young boy or girls interest in pursuing a career in weather. The event that I hold near and dear to my heart was a simple thunderstorm. How did that happen? Why is there lightening? Why is it so powerful? Questions like that stirred up in my head, and once they were answered, my interest grew more into a passion and love for the science.

From recent events around the Mid-Atlantic, many people will look at this storm and say….“Wow.” Mother Nature put together a masterpiece. A multitude of locations around Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore received 1-3 feet of snow. Just to note one of the amazing totals, Dulles International Airport, just outside of Washington reported 32.4” of snow, a new 2-day record.

Despite this event not even reaching northern New England, it was a wonder that was under my radar screen. A storm with such power and force is tough to battle, but to see the atmosphere put this together is remarkable.

From storms like this, there will be many more who will marvel at weather’s fury.
