A group gathered at the state house today to kick off a campaign they call "Bring Our War Dollars Home." Among them were representatives from peace groups, health care, education and social services.
They contend the amount of money being spent on war overseas could be better used in areas where state budgets are falling short. Locally, they say we could use the money to cover shortfalls in education and health and human services.
They urge people to contact Maine's congressional delegation and demand action against any further war spending.
"The bottom line in all of it is there is a pot of money out there to deal with these needs. Maine does not have to have this fiscal crisis. And the money is in these endless wars that we're involved in today," says organizer Bruce Gagnon.
The group says they'll be running their campaign for the next three months.

We all know here at home is bad, but imagine how bad it is over in Iraq and Afghanistan and what our soldiers are going through day in and out.
