The Zone Corporation's radio station WZON 103.1 is making an upgrade.
The new format will debut on January fourth.
And will be called 103.1The Pulse.
The radio station will have a line up that includes Montel Williams, Rachel Maddow, CNN Radio News and others.
The station will also feature shows on home repairs and improvement, the real estate market, pets and the Boston Red Sox.
" The change in the format has been a long time coming. Something the owners, Steve and Tabitha King have wanted to do for quite some time. They wanted to get this point of view across on radio, more of a progressive look at what's going on in Washington and on a local level as well."
In order to make the change they had to move an antenna from Dover-Foxcroft to Charleston Hill.

Here's a suggestion: Want this station to really get noticed? Stephen & Tabitha need to host the morning show. That has potential, at least for awhile.
If Mr. King is paying attention to our inane dribblings here, I would like to provide some insight for a local host, which I understand he is looking for. This can be a great resource and is sadly missing from most formats, even here in progressive Seattle (we have Reagan, but it's a national show).
I used to live in Miami, and while progressive radio existed there (sadly and insanely replaced with a 4th (uneeded) sports station), we had Jim Defede as a local host in the mornings. I was an avid listener at the time and was at first pissed, because Jim's show had bumped Maddow's current time slot. I quickly got over that as Jim's strong coverage of S Fla political issues combined with his goofy sense of humor was complete ear candy. Another radio great of the region was Neil Rogers. His politics were not completely progressive, but he knew how to draw listeners, and basically showed Randi Rhodes the "ropes" of the business. Either one of these shows would provide a great model for what a local show should sound like.
