A little natural snow and a little human made on top of that. That's the life of an operator of a ski area even in Maine. Temperatures finally cold enough to turn on the guns and that's what the crew at Hermon Mountain did on Friday. There is already a nice layer on the slopes from the last storm. Over the next few days the snow guns will fill in the bare spots and add to the base. Bill Whitcomb thinks with the hard work in the days ahead, he'll be in good shape to open next Friday.
Saddleback in Rangeley opened on Friday for their ski and showboard season. Just a few trails are open right now and as a result a lift ticket is only $25.
