Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day to be out and about, and some did so on horseback.
It was the first ever fund raising trail ride put on by the University of Maine Standardbred Drill Team.
For a twenty dollar donation, riders could go on the five and a half mile ride through the University course that started at the Witter Farm.
Six people took part in this inaguaral ride.
This years the funds were to benefit the Spirt of Hope Horse Rescue in Winterport.
The members of the drill team, including their President Rebecca Powers wanted to choose a local rescue that takes in horses and could use the financial help.
" A lot of people are having a hard time paying for their horse and they've had to give them up and even though there are places that take the horses they have to help pay for them and horses are a lot of work, they're a lot of money and we're raising money to help these places specifically Spirt of Hope take care of their horses, they have and hopefully give them a little more money to take a few more horses."
It wasn't just those on hand that donated either. People sent in money from Rhode Island and Indiana to help out.
This is the first annual ride, and the Drill Team would like to make it a fall tradition, but they may sponsor another ride in the spring.
