214 and Mt Tom Road seem to be very straight roads. I have been through there. And would question why a moose could not bee seen from a distance. I do know these dumb animals will walk out in front of you also. At what speed was the officer traveling and in what direction on which road 214 or Mt Tom Rd do we know yet? Sure hope he is alright!!

Rt 214 aka Ayers Junction Road is not a straight road by any means and even swerving to avoid an animal or other obstruction can be extremely dangerous at any speed. Moose are not visible at night, thier eyes are nonreflective and their dark coat blends into the night. I personally have had several very close encounters with moose, it is not unlikely for a moose to run across the road directly infront of you and unlike a deer who's eyes reflect headlights moose are not usually seen in advance.
Deputy Chambers was doing his job, responding to a call and I think it is of poor taste to question his speed. If he had been responding to a 911 call at your house would you question his speed then?? The most important thing is that he make a full and speedy recovery and be able to return to his job, protecting the citizens of Washington County.
