In an effort to make sure you decide whether or not you or your children get a flu shot, state representative Doug Thomas has introduced a bill that would forbid mandatory vaccinations.
Maine's top health official Dr. Dora Anne Mills says she's surprised by the bill adding that there is no current statute in Maine requiring mandatory vaccines, therefore she says there's no reason to codify the law.
Currently, students are required to have four vaccines including chicken pox and polio shots before entering school, however, there are so called "opt outs", in which parents are able to decide to not vaccinate. Rep. Thomas is standing behind his bill saying, "I believe that opens the door for some other bureaucrat to single out another segment of society to say you must be vaccinated and I'll tell you what, if some bureaucrat tells me I have to get vaccinated against my will we're going to have a fight. I'd like to prevent that fight."
On Thursday, October 15, the legislative council will take up the bill and decide whether or not to kill the bill or allow it to be given serioius consideration by lawmakers.

I'm not from Maine -- I'm a New Yorker -- but, as a concerned American, I strongly support State Representative Doug Thomas' effort for legislation to forbid mandatory vaccinations.
At the core, this is an issue with multiple extremely important paths of impact. Most important are the issues of Constitutionality, Freedom, and Health:
On the Constitutional issue, this goes to the heart of a whole range of Constitutional guarantees -- and principles that are also inherent in the Declaration of Independence -- about civil liberties, personal freedoms and rights, natural law, and imitations on what a Government should be permitted -- and not permitted -- to do.
In my opinion –
Forced invasion of a person's own body, especially if that person or his/her family or doctor or medical condition advise against it, would not only be a violation of that person and that person's (otherwise guaranteed) freedoms to choose his/her own pathway of health, it would also be a violation of the rights and principles set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution.
If such a violation is permitted to become law -- even for a brief period -- in Maine, that enactment will establish, and perhaps further advance, a dangerous precedent -- a precedent that will make it all the more easy, and perhaps likely, that other states will soon follow suit and enact similar "mandatory vaccination" legislation.
It's already happened in Massachusetts -- except that at the last minute, an amendment was included, to the state’s new mass-vaccination law, that permits state citizens to "opt out" based on "philosophical reasons". But what if that amendment had been struck down?
Mandatory vaccinations against this so-called "swine flu" have also been taking place in school districts in New Jersey and, as I've been reading, elsewhere too -- and many parents who refuse to permit their children to be thus vaccinated, even if they base their refusal on doctor's advice, are being hauled before the courts and, so I've read, in some cases jailed and fined.
As I understand it, the parents’ resistance may also, in some cases, engender the possibility that state authorities may seek to remove from those parents the custody of their own children, on the charge that the parents are, by their resistance, demonstrably unfit to act “in the child’s best interest”.
Fear -- which has been ratcheted up globally now by the WHO, and in the US by the President, the Secretary of Health & Human Services, the Centers for Disease Control, the Food & Drug Administration, components of "Big Pharma", and much of the major media -- appears to be the prime-driving-force propelling the nation toward mass vaccination, and quite possibly toward mass MANDATORY vaccination, not only of "children" and "pregnant mothers" and others in the "risk groups", but of (nearly) ALL persons in the nation, regardless of anyone's wish or request to NOT be vaccinated.
And for those who refuse to be thus vaccinated if a Federal decision to institute mass MANDATORY vaccination, nationwide, goes into effect? What may happen to your rights then? Same as the above unpleasant possibilities – or more extensive?
If a state, such as Maine, goes on the books and creates an official state law, such as the one being presented by representative Thomas’, is it possible that other states, and the Federal Government, might observe that as a highly noteworthy indication that the idea of making mass vaccinations mandatory is NOT a good idea?
Could passage, now, of Rep. Thomas’ vaccination-rights-protective bill, help save the nation from a dictatorial (and health-destructive) catastrophe, and at the same time consequently help Maine shine like a beacon of people’s rights in this dark and fearful time?
As to whether or not Maine currently has any "mandatory-vaccination related" legislation -- or regulations (which do not require the passage of a law) -- on the books, the fact is that many states, and especially the Federal Government, DO have laws and regulations on the books (and there are also, at the Federal level, relevant Presidential Directives and Executive Orders) that DO empower those states or the Federal Government to MANDATE -- under threat of INCARCERATION and HUGE FINES for those persons who resist -- the mass-vaccinating of the states', and the nation's, residents.
And actually, for those who are following these issues via many apparently well-informed internet-sites exploring these issues from the perspective of what “officialdom” and the much of the major media are NOT telling us, it would seem that a Federal choice to mandate these vaccinations could well engender a consequence far worse than the above.
Maybe it won’t happen. But, as I’ve read, the problem is that there is legislation, and there are regulations, already in place, that will allow it to happen if someone at a given level of officialdom gives the go-ahead.
Therein lies the deepest danger.
Is any of this Constitutional? Is any of this "the American way"? I leave it to you to decide. But should Maine now allow itself to be sucked into this dangerous quagmire of even leaving OPEN the POSSIBILITY that it may want to MANDATE mass-vaccination of its residents? Or would it be wiser to take the lead and SET AN EXAMPLE -- a PRECEDENT -- for others to follow, by choosing instead to ENACT LEGISLATION that would GUARANTEE that the state will NOT mandate mass-vaccinations and that it thereby ACTIVELY CHOOSES to NOT violate the United States Constitution or the freedoms and rights of its people?
Maine’s official motto is “I Lead”. Here is a chance for Maine to do exactly that – to lead, by passing representative Thomas’ very important vaccination-rights-protective bill.
Or would Maine rather become known by its new motto, “ I Follow”?
On the matter of the health-issues involved in these vaccines, there is huge concern – based on a broad array of medical facts, not just opinions – that these vaccines can be, and for many people will be, extremely harmful, destructive, damaging, and even in many cases deadly. But do you hear about these facts in the major media or from “officialdom”? Do you hear about non-pharmaceutical methods to build up your body’s immune-system naturally? Of course not.
Suggestion: Do the research! Go to the websites of such persons as Gary Null, Dr. Mayer Eisenstein, Dr. Sherry Tenpenny, Dr. Joseph Mercola, check out the info at NaturalNews dotcom, HealthFreedomUSA dotorg, the National Vaccine Formation Center, and more.
I submit that you will then see that representative Thomas’ bill not only makes eminent sense, but also that an even greater effort must be put into operation to INFORM Maine’s citizens and to PROTECT them from the dangers that are springing out of MIS-information about this entire field.
“I Lead”. Maine, this is your opportunity: Lead with the protections for FREEDOM, HEALTH, and, at least in this vaccination-controversy, TRUTH.
Codify vaccination choice now before it is too late!
