A mother and her baby escaped from their burning home Thursday morning...all thanks to a working smoke detector.

Authorities tell us the call for help came in around 2 o'clock.

Fire crews from Hermon as well as Levant and Carmel arrived on the Swan Road a short time later.

Fire fighters were able to save the home.

The fire reportedly started in the dryer.
