Governor John Baldacci has ordered flags across Maine to be flown at half staff on Monday.

The order is to honor the funeral of a Marine from Maine who was killed in Afghanistan.

Lance Corporal Joshua M. Bernard of New Portland died on August 14th while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan.

The funeral will be held Monday morning at the Crossroads Bible Church in Madison at 10 o'clock.

Thank you Lance Corporal Bernard for your services giving your life for the freedoms me and my family have today. To Mr. Bernards father: I am so sorry the AP disrespectfully published images of your son against your will and I am appaled by that. Thank you and your family for the sacrifice your son made to protect the freedom of me, my family, and every american. Lance Corporal Bernard, you are GREATLY APPRECIATED and you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your son's service. I can not pretend to imagine that depth of the loss for your family. Please as these words are seemingly meaningless at the present time; know your son's sacrifice is greatly appreciated at least by one. I will tell the story of your son and Americas other sons to my 3 year old son proudly. The dedication and service your son has given us is priceless. The entire country mourns with you. I apologize on behalf of the insensitive AP media.

Thank you Lance Corporal Joshua Bernard for your dedication to our country and to the soldiers around you. You have a wonderful testamony for the Lord. I often pray for someone to witness Gods Love to other soldiers. You did more in your 21 years of life than most of us do in a life time.
Mr & Mrs John Bernard and Family. I am sorry for your loss. Due to all the news about your son, he has become a bigger hero to me. I would not have shown the photo if it were my decision but we know that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord.

I'm sick of ideologues supporting the AP's exploitation of LCPL Bernard's death. I'm sick of the AP's coarse disregard for a family in grief. This has taken a devastating toll on the Bernard family. They feel violated. There is only one place you can hear LCPL Bernard’s Dad, who is a retired career Marine himself, explain what has been done to his loved ones:

Agree or disagree with him, he's a straight shooter and no one can understand the position he's in like he can. Before people go on and on about how brave and courageous Julie Jacobson and the Associated Press are, I wish they'd listen to what it’s like for LCPL Bernard's family.
