Sex Offender Sues State, District Attorney

A convicted sex offender from Steuben is suing the State and a District Attorney, claiming they violated his rights.

Hancock and Washington County District Attorney Michael Povich and Maine State Police Chief Patrick Fleming are both named in the suit brought by Frank Sawyer.

He was convicted of four counts of sexual abuse of a minor back in 1999.

Sawyer claims that because he was required to register as a sex offender, his right to privacy was violated.

Sawyer says he would not have pleaded guilty had he known he'd be required to register for ten years.

yes this is definitely a lawsuit. If someone was not notified before their plea agreement they should be yanked the hell off the registry. Someone who knows about this heinous law beforehand has a huge advantage over the people who did not know....they were essentially tricked and lied to if they were not told about it

i would have thought they would have been notified. i guess if that happened to me, id sue too

if AN ADULT can violate a CHILD then that ADULT has NO RIGHT to privacy. It is common knowledge that you would have to regester when it comes to FOUR COUNTS of SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR
