3 Arrested, 10 Summonsed in Washington County

A late night party in Washington County ends with three people under arrest, and 10 minors summonsed.

Authorities received a tip last week that a large amount of underage drinking would be going on at the Rocky Lake campsite in East Machias Saturday.

The function was linked back to an event known as Greek Weekend through the University of Maine at Machias, according to Washington County Sheriff Donnie Smith.

The party didn't happen at the campsite.

Instead, authorities say it was moved to Love Lake in Crawford.

Police say the owner of that property is Jay Beaudoin of Pembroke.

The 45-year old was arrested for furnishing a place for minors to possess or consume liquor.

Two other men, 23-year old Michael Hinerman of Machiasport and 21-year old Royce Bedbury were also charged with furnishing liquor to minors.

Sheriff Smith says 10 of the 13 minors at the party were summonsed for possession of liquor.

Glad to see the news got their facts straight. That event on Love Lake was hosted by ONE organization, NOT GREEK GAMES. The rest of us other Greeks(90%) had nothing to do with organizing, hosting and/or even attending that function. If you want a story about Greek Life you should look into all the community service we provide and how student life is a boarding home and none of the kids feel comfortable on campus, so they are forced off grounds, which in my opinion, puts them in harms way vs. the safety of their homes on campus.

It is a sad state when the big news is underage drinking and not the boost to the economy for Washington County. Hotels full to the brim, restaurants full and stores sold out of items. Greek organizations donate time and money to causes such as Cancer, Domestic Violence, Aids, Animal Shelters, Recycling Projects and Heating programs to mention only a few. But the big news is the breaking up of a get together friends. SAD STATE OF AFFAIR I THINK!!

It's a sad state of affairs when a group of youths are given the opportunity not to violate the law and are nicely warned prior to there event. But instead move the event and conduct the illegal activity. Sure it boosted the economy in washington county because alcohol sales went up for the day and so did food sales, so the economy got boosted, and then the fine money will probably go to the general fund boosting the state economy. But I supposer the break up of a underage drinking party isn't news but a group of fatalities or rapes or drug use is. Good police work I say and thanks for not allowing to escalate to something potentially worse.

As a non greek campus student, I wonder about the multitude of resouces that went into finding the alleged party that for all the police knew may or may not have existed after the first location had been found.
There is no excuse for breaking the law but its sad when the police have all this extra motivation to seek out and target college students partying simply because they can make a killing off them. My heart goes out to the 10 minors (or rather cash cows) that the police busted when there isn't an adult out there in this great country of ours that didn't do their share of underage drinking.
It makes me wonder why washington county officials have nothing better to do with their careers than run sting operations on students rather than drug dealers, rather than murderers, rather than the more dangerous of all these supposed "criminals".

i am a student at UMM and i can say for once in the years that have been here on campus every party that i have attended, there was always sober drivers. there were even sober drivers there the other night. the cops go out of the way to ruin everything, it wasnt even that big of a deal. un dersage drinking goes on everday, and the big news on tv or the newspaper is a party got busted.whoa hold the press everyone!. dont the cops have anything better to do then scare kids into running threw the woods and getting lost? there are bigger problems in teh state of maine to deal wtih besides under age drinking.
