State officials are investigating allegations of animal cruelty at Maine's largest egg farm, Quality Egg in Turner.
Assistant D.A. Andrew Robinson confirmed that a search warrant was executed by officials of the state's animal cruelty program and state police.
Norma Worley of the state Animal Welfare Program, three state animal agents and two state troopers were at the former DeCoster Egg Farm site Wednesday afternoon.
The Department of Agriculture was alerted to potential problems by Mercy for Animals, an animal welfare organization based in Ohio. The organization said it obtained video and photos from a farm worker in Turner that documented inhumane conditions for egg-laying hens.
